This historical area, established by the provisions of the Korean Armistice Agreement, serves as a buffer zone between North Korea and South Korea.
The DMZ currently attracts many tourists who can learn more about the past conflict between the two countries. The Korean war took place from 1950 to 1953, after which an Armistice was signed. Over 36,000 people are estimated to have perished during this conflict.
